Why Game Addiction is Real.
On average, kids are spending 8.5 hours ONLINE in one day, which has overall increased exposure to and engagement with video games. In fact, from 2019 to 2020, there was a 500% increase from 2019 to 2020.
75% of teens play video games, and on average, a teen plays 2 hours of games per day. Teens get addicted to video games because it triggers the brain’s reward system, distracting them from stress in their everyday lives. Thus, it has been found that there is a correlation between video gaming and depression. Game addicts have also been found to have anxiety and anger issues.
There are multiple problems with current solutions like the rehab, therapy, or the hotline. Rehab is expensive. For 10 days, it is $14,000. In therapy, kids are not always ready to talk about their problems or lie about what they are going through, even if they accept the help. There have also been many times where the hotline has even exacerbated the situation. According to many people, they got taken to an emergency room or psychiatric wing of the hospital, which actually increased suicide rates once they were discharged.
